Standard 5: Impact on Student Learning

:Physical education teacher candidates utilize assessments and reflection to foster student learning and to inform instructional decisions:

PED 434 presentation

Spring 2010

It was great being able to teach a unit of self defense to my peers. We had to use different assessment tools to test where the level of skill was in our classroom. My group gave a pretest, a post test, and also an affective test, and collected the data to support why self defense should be added to a districts physical education curriculum.

Standard 3: Planning and Implementation

:Physical education teacher candidates plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with local, state, and national standards to address the diverse needs of all students:

: 255 Lab C Activity Progression and Scope and Sequence for Speed Skating unit

: Spring 2010

During the course of 255, we were asked to teach an international activity and provide a lesson plan, an activity progression sheet, a block plan, and a scope and sequence. Teaching speed skating was a lot of fun, and I found that implementing all these different tools really helped me in discerning my peers needs and my future students needs.

Standard 2: Skill and Fitness Based Competence

:Physical education teacher candidates are physically educated individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate competent movement performance and health enhancing fitness as delineated in the NASPE K – 12 Standards:

Artifact: Snowboarding instructor at Song Mountain in Tully, NY.

Date: 2009-2010 winter season

Reflection: I was able to teach kids ages 3-11 beginner snowboarding skills at Song Mountain. I found this to be so rewarding because I love the sport and growing up in Central New York provided me with so many opportunities to use my gift. To be a snowboarding instructor at Song Mountain, all future employees had to undergo a series of trainings and also had to know the different progressions for how to teach kids the skill of snowboarding.

Standard 4 :Instructional Delivery and Management.

:Physical education teacher candidates use effective communication and pedagogical skills and strategies to enhance student engagement and learning:

Artifact: PED 201 Lab at Saint Mary's Elementary School

Date: Fall 2009

This is my reflective log of one of my weekly visits at Saint Mary's Elementary School. I observed, taught, and assisted students in Pre-K through fifth grade. The reflection shows my self awareness as a teacher. Being aware of yourself when teaching will lead to improvement because you are always aiming to make things better. I think that every physical education teacher should use reflections because it is a good way to get their thoughts about the lesson into words. It might also help them work out any instructional problems they are having.
